Y Surprisingly Painful

A young friend of mine was served with her divorce papers this week. She has been separated from her husband for many months and this separation was one of many.

This young woman believed that she was marrying a believer who would love and cherish her. Instead she found herself married to a man who struggled with lust and adultery.

I watched her go back and try to make it work more times than I would have had the courage for. I am so impressed with her determination to give God's Word a chance to work, even when it would have been much easier to give up.

We knew the papers would be coming eventually. And while she is glad on one level to have some closure, on many other levels, her heart is breaking.

Her number one question is this: I really tried to do it God's way, so why didn't it work?

There is just no easy answer to that! It makes my heart ache to see her pain. She did try and she did grow so much over the years. She forgave again and tried to put the memory of betrayal behind her. But it happened again. And again.

So even though she knows that God doesn't require her to stay married to someone who isn't faithful to her, she is mourning her marriage anyways.

You can't repent for someone and you can't change someone else's heart and eventually you have to move on.

Father, please help my friend to rely on you through this divorce. Please help her to heal and grow and help her to forgive and not allow bitterness to poison her heart. I pray for a future relationship that will glorify you and give her the marriage and family that she dreams of. In Jesus Name, Amen
