I'm back this week to share about how
my new discipline technique has been working. A few week's ago I
shared that I was going to try removing everything (except for his
bed) from Caleb's bedroom and he would have to earn his things back.
I didn't end up removing everything from his room because in my
apartment I just don't have anywhere to put all his stuff other than
his room. However I did remove the big ticket items - his TV,
playstation 2, etc.
The first few days were a bit challenging. He was bored and that
caused him to get even angrier with me for doing what I did which in
turn made me want to just give in and give him the items back. I
toughed it out and am glad to say that he is beginning to respect me
and my authority once again. Praise God!
I was doubting whether Caleb would ever respect me as the adult
because for so long I let him 'rule' the nest but I'm finding that
not only has he began to respect me I've began to respect myself
again as the parent! It's been a win-win situation for the both us,
one that I'm not going to backslide ever again!
It's funny to hear Caleb tell himself that he has to respect and
mind me or else he'll lose the big things again but if he has to
talk to himself to remember who's the boss then he can talk to
himself all the time!
