"Now who is there to hurt you if you are zealous
followers of that which is good? But even if you
should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do
not fear what they fear; do not be frightened. But
in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be
prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you
to give the reason for the hope that you have. But
do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear
conscience, so that those who speak maliciously
against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed
of their slander. It is better, if it is God’s will,
to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.” 1
Peter 3: 13-17.
What do you say to someone who claims to get his or
her direction from the “Universe”? When your
coworker tells you she gets her palm read, what do
you say? Do you squirm or reply when someone says
they’ll “send positive energy your way”?
If
in our heart we have “set apart Christ as Lord” we
should have an answer ready for those (and other)
New-Age type phrases! The Holy Spirit in us won’t be
able to keep quiet, and hopefully we won’t either!
Our response should be “gentle and respectful”, but
we should offer a response! What makes us too timid
to share?
False teachings abound, and they’re permeating our
media, workplaces, colleges and schools today more
than ever. We Christians must recognize them (no
matter how subtle or harmless they seem) and
respond, not ignore them! Why are we afraid of
others’ reactions?
